prostate cancer has come under greater public awareness in recent years due to excellent public education of the disease by the medical community. Perhaps the greatest asset to come out of this increased awareness is the fact that prostate cancer prevention steps public information and can be accessed by individuals seeking such information. In short, there are a few accepted methods of prostate cancer prevention that can greatly reduce cancer risks.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the most common ways to reduce prostate cancer risks revolve around what one eats. One must try to take care of one’s diet and steps towards proper prostate cancer prevention will be undertaken. A diet high in animal fat will greatly increase the risk factor. Also, excess consumption of dairy products can increase risk factors.

Also there are certain drugs designed to deal with the hormones and provide hormonal preventions to the onset of cancer. Also there are numerous studies undertaken to see if any drugs can be developed that will suppress the onset of prostate cancer. The evidence in this arena is inconclusive at this stage of the game, but progress in this avenue of prostate cancer prevention is made every day.

Risks factors that are impossible to change or alter include age and genetics. There is no way to alter one’s heredity or age. This does not mean that the methods of prostate cancer prevention are limited to diet. What it does mean that in order to truly take steps for prostate cancer prevention, one must always schedule regular check ups and physicals with their doctor.

Knowledge is the true key to prevention. Speak with your doctor and read as much literature that you can. If an individual increases their understanding of the condition increases, you can take steps to prevent it.
